In case I’ve forgotten to mention it before, but I’ve recently updated my site design. I’ve been using the same theme for a while and I thought it was time for a new one. So, I downloaded K2 and I looked up some styles for it. I found a pretty cool one called Curlz and Steph has edited the header and footer images for me using elements from my previous design. I think it looks good. It isn’t done all of the way yet, but it probably will be in the next couple of days.

So, I’ve updated my Projects page. I added the photos of one of the woodcarving projects I did, which I’ll also put below. It is called a Dalecarlian Horse, and there is a bunch of cool stuff that this wikipedia article will tell you about them. I’ll just let you look for yourself if you’re interested. Anyway, have a look at my projects page or just read below for the same stuff:

This is a Dalecarlian style horse I carved from basswood using instructions from a Swedish style woodcarving book I have. I made it as a gift for my mom for Christmas but just got around to uploading the pictures. I don’t think it’s too bad for a first attempt at this style of woodcarving. It is difficult because I don’t have a bandsaw to cut out the rough shape so I had to rough it out by hand from a block. Steph (my wife) did the fancy traditional paint job.

Here are a couple of things I’ve carved recently. They aren’t much, but hopefully I’ll finish my cat soon. I had fun doing these and I think I’m going to try to keep track of all of my little projects.

One is a heart I carved as a small present for Steph and the other is a quick branch carving I did. It is supposed to be some sort of spreader.

All of those photos can be found in my new Wood Carving set on my Flickr page although they are the only photos in the set at the moment. I think I’ll also add a section on my website dedicated to finished projects. Maybe in the future I’ll do step by step photo instructions for wood carving projects. I’ll have to get better first, though.

Over the past few months, I’ve been getting into Wood Carving. I’m quite horrible at it right now, but I hope to improve vastly. Ideally, I’ll become a Master Wood Carver and ride around in a wooden vehicle with wooden birds flitting about as I drive through a wooden city peddling my wooden wares.

So far, I’ve only managed to make a little heart, a bowl, a spoon, and a branch carved spreading device…I guess for peanut butter or something, if you enjoy the blending tastes of wood and peanut butter.

I’ve been reading a bit about it as well as just blindly trying to figure it out on my own. I really don’t know if my technique is that great, but if you check back with me in about 10 years, I’ll let you know if I’ve figured it out. Anyone enjoy a little woodcarving? Maybe we could get together and carve an army for ourselves. An army of peace and woodiness, that is…providing shelter for many a woodpecker in dire need.

Maybe I’ll post a picture or two of my next finished project to see what you think.
