Great review.   I am a BIG Murakami Fan.  I thought it was funny, I read Kafka first also!  Then read Norwegian Wood and fell in love with it.  I would say I love Wind-up Bird but Norwegian stills reigns as my favorite.  Then Wind-up Bird second ^_^.  

I love his books for the surrealism and the twisting stories.  Like you said, you can figure out many key points.... but one can NEVER unwind the whole story.  And his books always leave my mind knotted up for weeks after I finish.
