I walked outside this morning to see my car engulfed in a thin layer of snow, slowly being washed away by a slow drizzling rain. The chill in the air gave way to a cheerful warmness inside me. I feel good today.
I got a call from my friend Frank (also known as Vulture, and/or Silverback) who lives in Hawaii and has a much better job than me. It was good to talk to him, and he gave me some interesting info about various people I used to know.
I got a nice comment on one of my blog posts from Steve from limb2limb.com with some general advice about woodcarving. He seems like a nice guy and I’ve added his site to my Blogroll.
I’m off to get some lunch. I have a hankering for some hominy.
We went for a walk tonight and I took that photo.
I was watching Bill Bailey videos on Youtube tonight. I love Bill Bailey. He’s hilarious.
I didn’t have the time or the inclination to work on my woodcarving this evening. I think I’ll make a good attempt to finish the cat off this weekend and post my results. Maybe I’ll take more photos as well. I’m sure you’re all on the edge of your seats. Good night, everyone.
I woke up today freezing, walked out the door freezing, and went to work freezing. It was very cold this morning. Over the past few days the temperature dropped and there were even a few flakes of snow.
It’s ok now that the heat is going, but I wish things would go back to the way they were a week or 2 ago. It was getting nice and Springy.
As some of you know, I’m in the military. I get out in December, which excites me greatly. This base is going to be a very difficult place to work in the coming year or so. My career field has been drastically affected by the decreased budget and the reallocation of money to the war effort. They are kicking many of us out of the military (not me, I wanted to go) and the ones staying in will be performing the same workload with decreased funding and much less manpower. I don’t know how that will affect the Air Force as a whole, but it is bound to wear people down and cause problems in the long run.
The plan for Information Technology in our realm is to pull everything up to the highest level for central administration. This has its advantages and mirrors the corporate sector, but it also has its disadvantages. The military has to deal with mass fluctuation of ops tempo as well as personnel. If this tiny base has to deal with the influx of personnel in the same way it did in 2003 (during Operation Iraqi Freedom) with its planned 3 personnel holding the IT infrastructure together, I predict problems on a large scale.
Unfortunately, my opinion doesn’t matter….not that it will in the civilian sector either. Maybe I’ll become a Baker.
I’ve been working on my site tonight…I had something to say but I can’t remember what it was. I guess I’ll just use this opportunity to test my new crosspost script. Test.
I’ve become severely addicted to Battlestar Galactica. It is just a great show, and I can’t really say more than that. I’m slightly obsessed.
In other news, I’m going to start working on my blog site again. I crosspost all of my entries to Livejournal using a Wordpress Plugin, but I think I’m going to update the site’s layout and add some more things to it. I want to feature my photos more as well as start a section on my wood carving. I might also add some writing stuff on there….just some projects I’ll be working on. I’ll still maintain my normal blog with appropriate Livejournal crossposting, but there will probably be more available content on ridingthewind.net in case any of my LJ readers (not many of you out there…heh) want to take a look in a week or two.
In woodcarving news, I’m starting on a small project. I’m trying to carve a small cat figure. It will be pretty basic, I must say. I saw a carved cat in a store and the design is loosely based on that. I’ll probably post a picture when I finish it.
