I thought this was pretty interesting. I have a thing about giant squid. Actually, let me rephrase that. I have a thing about the deep ocean, which includes giant squid. Is it squid or squids? I guess it doesn't matter. Anyway, the whole point of that was that the ocean is very deep, very mysterious, and could potentially hold things the size of small cities which go around devouring things the size of villages. I find that fascinating.

Here is today's daily tao:

To your hermitage here on the top of the mountain
I have climbed, without stopping, these ten miles.
I have knocked at your door, and no one answered;
I have peeped into your room, at your seat beside the table . . . .
Perhaps you are out riding in your canopied chair;
Or fishing, more likely, in some autumn pool.
Sorry though I am to be missing you,
You have become my meditation -
The beauty of your grasses, fresh with rain,
And close beside your window the music of your pines,
I take into my being all that I see and hear,
Soothing my senses, quieting my heart;
And though there be neither host nor guest,
Have I not reasoned a visit complete?
. . . After enough, I have gone down the mountain,
Why should I wait for you any longer?

So there isn't much going on at the moment. Steph () and I have just been playing a lot of World of Warcraft which i guess is ok for now. I've been thinking about submitting a few of my poems to the poetry society for its National Poetry Competition but I'm not sure if I will. I want to, but I don't think it will come to anything. I definitely want to start entering some of that stuff, though. Someday I might write something good enough to make a dollar…or even 50 cents. I could buy a candy bar or something. Mmmm. Candy.

Steph and I are going up to Scotland next week. We're going up there for our 2nd anniversary and I'm pretty excited about it, as well as this season in general. Autumn has to be my favorite season. The feeling it gives me is great. In fact, the daily tao for today just reminded me of the whole thing:

A stony path leads up the cold mountain
where houses emerge from the white clouds.
I stop in the woods, moved by the maples -
their frosted leaves redder than spring flowers.
– Du Mu

I really need to spend more time walking outside this autumn. I did a fair bit of it last year, but when Autumn goes, I always feel as if I've missed out. It all just slips by so fast.

I've decided that we need to have a one world government. Presidents will be chosen on a random basis and serve for extremely short terms. The terms could even be as short as 24 hours. Every citizen will serve in government in some way for at least 24 hours. Voting will be based on individual issues and there will be no representative system, since it doesn't work. People will vote for the issues they wish to have a say on so that they can't be lied to about legislation. Either that or we could have a similar system to the previously mentioned presidential one, where people would be randomly selected for a short duty.

Don't ask me how we get to that point, but it can't involve war or oppression.

I guess I haven't posted since June.

News:

My other grandfather died.
I may be going to Iraq in January.
Steph and I are going on holiday for a week for our anniversary in the Scottish Highlands.
My sister is going to have a wee baby, effectively making me an uncle. Strange.
I had to go to Airman Leadership School, which was painful.
I unintentionally won 2 awards at that school, which have been thrown into a desk drawer full of papers.
I've been playing a game called Battlefield 2.

I have a question for anyone who reads this. I'm sure that probably isn't many.

Do you think time exists, or is it merely a measurement humans have created to deal with the unexplainable phenomenon of change? If there is no time and there is only change….is change the manifestation of what people call God? Is God change? Are they one and the same, or is change controlled by a higher being which some call God? What does your belief system have to say about God?

On a lighter note - What fish would you be if you had to be a fish?
