blah

I hate how certain people at work say things like: “Were you in the process of vacuuming the server room?” when they are actually just saying: “Vacuum the server room. Now.” I feel like saying: “Are you in the process of being a total dick?”

11: when did you last laugh? why?:

update

I haven't posted here in ages, mostly because I've been relatively busy. I've been trying to pick up some knowledge of php, and have made a couple of scripts that are mostly for my use. The first one was a news script based on writing/pulling information to/from a text file, in order to update things on websites at work without the use of a database system.

The second script was a variation on this, which uses mySQL, has a login system, etc. I intend to use it as a blog script, as well as using it for a news area on my main website, when I get it up and running. Steph and I have been working on making a decent frontpage area to my website…I made some little oldschool characters from pacman, etc and did some lettering, a little snake design, etc and then Steph changed up some colors and the design a bit and made it look nicer. The design portion of things seems to come a little more naturally to her. I have to have some sort of external inspiration in order to do anything visual at all. So basically, she's going to work on it a bit more and hopefully make it look nice, and I'll tweak it, make some flash effects and buttons, and put it in website form. I think that someday if we both had decent skills in various scripting languages, etc we would make a pretty good team. I still think that most of my creations will have to be functional rather than asthetic though…I don't think I have it in me…which makes me pretty sad, really. I know how to do things….but I just don't seem to be able to put ideas together in order to make something.

My third script was just a tiny one which reads another website or file's contents, so that I can read websites that are blocked by the base's proxy while I am at work.

Anyway, I'm sure it won't be too long before my site is up, and then I'll have various areas where anyone interested can see what I'm working on/learning. I'm still pretty new to it all, so it won't be very exciting, I'm sure. I'd just like to learn as much as possible by doing various projects before I get out of the military, and as soon as I have a better grasp on php and mySQL, I can try to learn a proper compiled programming language like C++ or something to give me a better chance of getting the kind of job I want on the outside. I'd also like to maybe do occasional work online on the side for extra income, and I'd like a job at a small company that would allow me the time and freedom to pursue things that interest me while at work. I'm sure it would benefit them as well, in the long run.

I knew that one was coming when I saw Jenny's result.

I am very very tired. I don't have much to talk about, really. Tomorrow we are driving to visit Steph's family in Norwich for Easter. That's going to be a painful drive..hopefully the car will hold up all right. I'm going to have to bring my jump rope so I have some form of cardio that I can do while I'm there. I have tomorrow off, so we'll probably leave in the morning sometime. I should go to bed early, or I'm going to be too tired to drive safely.

I went to the gym yesterday and instead of doing my usual 3 sets of various weights I did 2 sets, but did heavier weights than I would usually try, and it actually seemed to work well, as I am very sore today. I also did my Bruce Lee style ab workout. Basically my plan is to start with high weight and low reps on my sets for weights, and then after I build muscle, I'll switch to lower weight and higher reps, for speed purposes. This is what Bruce Lee did, apparently. I've also decided to start jumping rope on the weekends, as I can do this from my back yard without too much trouble…I never feel like going to the gym or running on weekends. Hopefully after a while, I'll be able to sustain the jumping for longer periods of time. Anyway, intensely busy at work lately, so I'll have to cut short here. Lots of work to do.

Which Personality Disorder Do You Have?

In other news, we were going to go on some trip to Wales to go horseback riding in the Black Mountains, but the spots filled up on the trip really quickly, so I couldn't get in on time. Hopefully, they will do another trip soon so we can go. I think Steph was keen on the idea.

I got a package yesterday that contained a shirt, a pair of pajamas belonging to Steph, a letter, and my watch. All of these things (aside from the letter) had been left at my parents' house during our last visit. The watch had to be fixed, but is now in good working order. I wore it today, actually. I also got some confusing mail in the package. It was from a collection agency, but they were collecting from a company I've never heard from, and claim to be settling for a much smaller amount than it showed I owed. I don't understand any of this, because when I got my reenlistment bonus in January of last year, I payed off all of my debts. Unless I overlooked something completely, this has to be some sort of screwup. It makes me a little nervous though. What I don't understand is why I never got any notice until now. It's approaching a year since I moved to England, I left my apartment complex with a forwarding notice with my new address, and I changed my address of record with every company I have contact with. I don't know. I'll call the lady again tonight since she wasnt there yesterday and see if I can figure it out. It would be really annoying to have to pay a bunch of money when we just spent almost everything we have saved in order to go to my sister's wedding this summer. Oh well. I have no control over this, so we'll see what happens. Time for lunch, I think.
